Good morning everyone. Today’s main subject will be the Mixbloods – their origins, importance and a story associated with their early days. Everything started long ago…

Taervin, year 87 of Era II
Among those who arrived in the Continent in early Era II, there were not many women. For this reason, some of the colonizers and soldiers decided to try their luck in relationships with Southolk women. Most were satisfied with the new wives – they were beautiful and, due to the culture of the South, very loyal to their husbands. Those relationships soon resulted in the birth of first mixed children. They were initially treated as inferior beings, an impure version of the proper man.
The situation only started to change slowly after the Arrival. A young Mixblood, Naman, whose origin had been covered up, joined the Generals as an advisor, and reached fame as the Counsellor. Simultaneously, the arrival of numerous men along with the three leaders created further necessity for relationships, and hence created more Mixblood children. The more numerous they became, the more people would recognize them as legitimate people, but the prejudice largely remained.
A major breakthrough occurred after over twenty years from the Arrival. Hanter, an officer in Nyther’s unit, received permission to take a group of people further west, towards the Southfolk realms. Upon reaching the southern shores of the Lake, still not colonized after the fall of Dora, the explorers decided to settle, creating what they called the Free Duchy. The leader of the colonists was still a single man, and so, he decided to look for a wife. He sent letters to the two young Eastfolk realms and another towards the west, hoping it would reach one of the Southern kingdoms. All three received replies, and over a dozen women were presented to Hanter. His people suggested that he chose one from the Cape or from Revenith, as they saw their former comrades as the best allies. The duke thought about it for many days. Finally, he made the decision, and sent a letter accepting one of the Southfolk brides. They married in the provisional court of the Duchy, in what had been the largest ceremony in the country’s short history.
Not a long time later, their first son was born – a Mixblood, who was given the name Hyeoth, a variation of an ancient Southern name. They then had two more sons and a daughter, who would later marry a noble from Revenith. After over thirty years of marriage, Hanter died of old age, and Hyeoth took his place. It was an important day for the Mixbloods of the Duchy, and other Eastern countries as well. The news greatly increased the recognition of Mixbloods, and limited discrimination – even though they were still considered different, a royal kind deserved at least some degree of respect.
The first centuries of Era II established the position of Mixbloods in the society of Aedilër – far more notable than that of any mixed ethnicity before or after them – and saw the creation of more minor states, known as the Mixblood Duchies. The Mixbloods eventually became distinct from both of their parent species – they created their own culture, along with a set of names, and by the year 500 they were mostly marrying to each other rather than Southfolk or Eastmen. As you should know, the Mixbloods are now a major ethnic group of the Continent and are present in all of its countries.
Thank you, that’s all for now.
